Choose your career path
Your career as a financial advisor can lead the way to a number of exciting opportunities. You can pursue a long-term career as a financial advisor in the Ameriprise Advisor Group or become an associate financial advisor for a franchise advisor’s practice. You could also choose an advisor career in our Ameriprise Advisor Center and work in the Ameriprise Financial corporate office. We have many business models; it's up to you to choose how and where you focus your career.
Associate financial advisor
The vast majority of those pursuing a financial advisor career with Ameriprise Financial will begin as an associate financial advisor. As such, you'll bring your experience and client relationships to an established practice. In this role, you'll be a fully licensed advisor, working as an employee or contractor of an Ameriprise financial advisor. Becoming an associate financial advisor gives you the opportunity to master our approach to financial planning as you work with clients and support the successful practice of your advisor.

Financial advisor
If you're considering a career change as an experienced professional with an established natural market, you may qualify to become a financial advisor. As an employee of Ameriprise Financial, you'll focus on working with clients and be paid a salary. You'll also be eligible for bonuses based on sales commissions and earned fees.

An advisor career in our Ameriprise Advisor Center is designed for professionals who prefer more structure, a predictable environment, and established client relationships and business. Our advisors provide financial planning services to existing clients as well as discuss the benefits of financial planning with prospective clients. You'll be based in our Minneapolis corporate office and surrounded by team leaders and team support.
