As an Ameriprise financial advisor, you'll help shape the financial future of clients. You'll guide them toward their retirement dreams, help send their children to college, or help with other major lifetime financial goals and decisions. We recognize that this is a tremendous responsibility, but you won't go it alone. We'll help you learn everything you need through our extensive training and custom learning paths as well as the support you'll receive from your team in the office. Leading, coaching, mentoring
At Ameriprise, we believe one of the best ways to learn is from experienced advisors. You'll have many opportunities to work with leaders as mentors and career coaches who can share best practices and help you put financial planning systems and processes in place. You'll also have opportunities to meet and learn from many of our leading advisors through seminars, corporate training events and industry conferences.
Ameriprise University
With a calendar of scheduled training events, this career development resource provides one centralized point of access online. You can search and browse functions to quickly locate programs of interest and then track your completed training and view a learning history. You can even gain continuing education credits to help you maintain your licenses. The courses are available right from your desktop, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Overview
If you qualify to become an Ameriprise financial advisor, you'll begin a comprehensive two-year new advisor training program that will give you the foundation you need for success. As part of an experienced advisor's team, you'll learn through hands-on participation and formal online and group training.

Licensing (Days 1-90)
Through self-study and guided training sessions, you'll prepare to earn these licenses:
- FINRA Series 7 for general securities sales
- FINRA Series 66, covering state laws, ethics and securities knowledge
- Life insurance license
- Accident and health insurance license
- State-specific licenses
You are a paid employee during the licensing period.

Introductory knowledge and skills
Once you're licensed, you'll continue your formal training and shadow your lead advisor as you learn how to:
- Understand Ameriprise
- Use our technology tools
- Build your personal brand
- Develop a marketing plan
- Develop your website
- Set up and acquire new clients
- Become part of a successful team

Compliance
An important part of your early training will center on products & solutions, key client service processes, complying with company and industry rules and regulations, which include:
- Compliance basics
- Code of conduct
- Anti-money laundering
- Identity theft red flags
- Mutual fund rules and tools
- Revenue sharing disclosures
- Annuity overview
- Security awareness
- Telemarketing and Do Not Call requirements
- Errors & omissions

Core curriculum (Year 1)
Over your first year, you'll focus on a core curriculum that will teach you to:
- Create a client contact strategy
- Understand your competition
- Understand financial products and services

Before you can begin selling products or services, you will also complete courses on:
- 1031 Exchanges
- Home lending
- Financial planning

Specialty curriculum
Although not required, we support advisors in pursuing their CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM and CHARTERED RETIREMENT PLANNING COUNSELORSM certifications, and/or other professional designations. In addition, we offer in-depth training in:

- Practice management

Learning methods
You'll learn in a variety of ways designed to appeal to different learning styles:
- Live virtual classrooms
- Online self-study courses
- Area office and market group activities, including on-the-job training and Market Group Education Days
- Educational workshops on a variety of career development topics at strategic points in your career development

Overview
As an associate financial advisor, you'll be a fully licensed advisor and work as an employee or contractor for a seasoned Ameriprise franchise advisor. You'll learn through hands-on participation and training the financial advisor makes available.

In addition, prior to conducting sales activity, AFAs must complete AFA training as specified by the AFA Program. Your franchise advisor may make additional training available.

Overview
The Ameriprise Advisor Center (AAC) is a fast-paced learning environment that prepares you for a financial advisor career in a team setting. You'll learn how to work with clients one-to-one, either over the phone, online or through email.

Phase 1: Advisor in Training
Licensing
Through self-study and guided training sessions, you'll prepare to earn these licenses:
- FINRA Series 7 for general securities sales
- FINRA Series 66, covering state laws, ethics and securities knowledge
- Life insurance license
- Accident and health insurance license
- State-specific licenses
You are a paid employee during the licensing period.
Initial client contacts
You'll receive classroom training, role-plays, software training and online courses that will help you:
- Pass all tests on the first attempt
- Communicate effectively with clients, including scheduling appointments
- Build a rapport with clients

Phase 3: Early Advisor Development
Building deeper relationships
You'll receive hands-on coaching from sales leaders and learn to interact with our Operations help desk and Compliance department. Through case analyses and call reviews, you'll begin to hone your skills in:

- Practice management
- Position solutions to meet client needs
